How Is the Financial Year End (FYE) Determined for a Hong Kong Company?
- Modified: 11 February 2026
A Hong Kong company’s fiscal year begins on the date of incorporation and ends on a date set by the company’s directors. Most companies align their financial year end with the government’s financial year, commonly 31 December or 31 March. The first set of financial statements must cover no more than 18 months from incorporation.
Changing the FYE: Requires a board resolution prepared by the company secretary. Companies should also update customers, banks, suppliers, and company stationery to reflect the new FYE.
