What Is an EORI Number?

An Economic Operators Registration and Identification (EORI) number is required if your business moves goods across certain borders:
- Between Great Britain (England, Scotland, Wales) or the Isle of Man and any other country, including the EU.
- Between Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
- Between Great Britain and the Channel Islands.
- Between Northern Ireland and countries outside the EU.
- The Cost: £0 (Free via GOV.UK).
- The Time: It usually takes about 5 to 10 minutes to apply online, and you often receive the number immediately, though it can take up to 5 working days if HMRC needs to perform manual checks.
