Where Can I Find My UTR and Companies House Authentication Code After Incorporation?
- Published: 7 April 2026
After your company is incorporated, two important identifiers will be issued: your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) and your Companies House authentication code.
The UTR is a 10-digit number issued by HMRC that identifies your company for tax purposes, including filing Corporation Tax returns and communicating with HMRC.
Your Companies House authentication code allows you to file documents online with Companies House, such as confirmation statements or director changes.
Both numbers are typically sent by post to your registered office address within around 14 days of incorporation.
If you have not received them, you can request replacements online:
- Authentication code: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/company-authentication-codes-for-online-filing
- Corporation Tax UTR: https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/ask-for-copy-of-your-corporation-tax-utr
HMRC will send the UTR to the business address registered with Companies House.
