What Are the Differences Between Dependant Pass (DP) and Long Term Visit Pass (LTVP) in Singapore?

  • Modified: 12 November 2025

DP is for spouses and children of Employment Pass (EP) or S Pass holders. LTVP covers a wider range of family members and has different work and benefit rules. Osome provides advisory on both passes.

DP holders who intend to become business owners can work by applying for a DP Letter of Consent. However, LTVP holders who are under the sponsorship of a work pass are generally not permitted to work in Singapore.

Eligibility

DP is for spouses and unmarried children under 21 of EP or S Pass holders. LTVP is for parents, step-parents, handicapped children over 21, and other categories, usually sponsored by citizens or PRs. Eligibility differs by pass type and sponsor.

Employment Rights

If you are a DP holder looking to start your own business, you can apply for a DP Letter of Consent to work. On the other hand, if you are an LTVP holder sponsored by a work pass, you usually would not be allowed to work in Singapore.

Benefits

DP holders get benefits similar to the main pass holder depending on the type of work pass. LTVP holders generally have fewer benefits. Benefit levels differ by pass type and issuing authority.
